Some photoshoots begin with a photography concept. This one started with hair.
Hairstylist Billy Jones was looking to create portfolio images that would showcase two different formal hairstyle designs, and together we developed a session that would highlight both looks in an elegant setting.
To complement the hairstyles, model Jamisyn wore two beautiful prom gowns, giving us the opportunity to create a series of images with a formal, timeless feel. Binder's Gardens in Needville, Texas provided the perfect location, with its warm interior spaces and wedding venue atmosphere adding depth and character to every frame.
My goal was to keep the lighting natural-looking while still providing enough control to highlight the details of Billy's work. Using a single 4-foot octabox, I balanced the flash with the existing ambient light inside the venue, allowing the background to remain visible rather than disappearing into darkness.
The session produced two distinctly different looks—one featuring an elegant updo and the other showcasing soft flowing curls. Both styles photographed beautifully and demonstrated the versatility and craftsmanship that Billy brings to his work.
A special thank you to Marc and Robin Binder for allowing us to use their beautiful venue, and to Jamisyn for helping bring the creative vision to life.
